“...no man may initiate the use of physical force against others. No man—or group or society or government—has the right to assume the role of a criminal and initiate the use of physical compulsion against any man. Men have the right to use physical force only in retaliation and only against those who initiate its use. The ethical principle involved is simple and clear-cut: it is the difference between murder and self-defense. A holdup man seeks to gain a value, wealth, by killing his victim; the victim does not grow richer by killing a holdup man. The principle is: no man may obtain any values from others by resorting to physical force.” Ayn Rand

Our first dinner meeting of the NWTP at Chester's Restaurant was a delicious event filled with much "food for thought" and action. My scrod was yummy and Harris enjoyed the Chicken Marsala. Whether coming early for the meal or arriving afterwards for the talks, all agreed that this an excellent venue and that we should have an encore. Enjoyable conversation during dinner was followed by three excellent speakers.

Dexter Liu spoke of his family's tragic experience living under the shadow of a monstrous growing tyranny in China. He talked about the crucial importance of the right to protect your own life, which is protected by our Second Amendment.

Don Allen spoke next on Common Core. He gave some of the shocking and unnerving history leading up to this government takeover of education. He talked about the unconstitutionality of it, the veil of secrecy surrounding it, the deeply flawed, arbitrary standards, and the unconscionable invasion of privacy on many levels, including gathering of your child's (and your) personal information. He spoke of the nightmare of bureaucrats intruding into something so personal as the education of our children, which is properly the domain of parents. For more info: here

Matthew McKenna topped off the evening with his talk: "Do you voluntarily surrender your privacy?" An expert in the field of technology, he gave us an eye-opening, chilling overview of how accessible our private information is. He covered social media and the Internet, government programs (IRS, "Affordable" Care Act, Common Core, FAFSFA, Gun Registrations, "Smart" Meters), and alerted us to the buyers and sellers of your privacy. Knowledge is power and it gives us the ability to fight this "Big Brother" invasion into our lives.

Ellen gave updates on recent events and reports, announcing the news that Mike Puyana, the RI Tea Party lobbyist at the State House, is now at the helm of the RI Tea Party. She also talked about The RI Center for Freedom & Prosperity's events and reports:

  • The Unleash RI Debate at URI
  • The Center's Competitiveness Report Card on the RI business climate: here
  • Spotlight on Savings report: here
  • Legislative Freedom Index here

Ellen also read a short poem from a pro-liberty poet, Berton Braley, which you can treat yourself to: here
From one site: "Berton Braley (1882 -1966) was an America poet who expressed the benevolent American sense of life through rhyme and verse. His poems romanticize the heroic, great, and industrious in man." here

It was an engaging and informative evening. We learned how to better protect ourselves, and protect individual rights on a wider scale.

  March 25, 2014
U.S. Congressional Candidate Rhue Reis spoke at our NWTP meeting. As a student of the US Constitution and an American committed to individual liberty, he presented his agenda for liberty and engaged in a lively Q & A. He is challenging James Langevin in the upcoming elections. Ellen also spoke on how your personal dreams and freedom are under attack, and how to fight the battle to preserve the American dream.
